How can I fix a split hose on Kenmore cannister Powermate Vacuum 2645082?

Is it possible to fix split hose (about 3 inches) on Kenmore cannister Powermate vacuum 2645082 without replacing the hose and 2 prong power head? There is nothing wrong with the power part, just that the hose has split open. The hose split where it fits into the head.

We have the same issue. We are using a roll of Gorilla Black Duct Tape (flexible) wrapping the 8" hose to nozzzle, 8" hose to vacuum connection and several splits in the main body of the hose 4-6". it has held for over six months.
