What would be the best vacuum to own bar none ?

I researched Dyson vacuums last year. I did not like what I read as they seemed to break a lot. I know someone who has the Animal, and she loves it. You could not pay me to buy one, but then again, I am sold on Aerus/Electrolux. I have two canister vacs, an Epic 8000 and an Epic 6500, both purchased lightly used from Vac dealers. I love them! One for each floor of my home, and they are used a lot since I have a Lab and cats who shed a lot.
