Mend Nissan Micra Bought 03

nissan micra new shape - how to remove dashboard in order to replace spedo?

How to remove dashboard of Nissan Micra?

Bought a new nissan micra 03. Dashboard light showing indicator is on stopped working. Not bulb or fuse. Therefore have to replace entire combination metre - that is the circuit board behind the dials and warning lights on the dash. Obviously a manufacturing fault - not a fault in any way caused by our use of the car. Have been advised by car experts that such a component should be good for the life of the car; leave alone 4 years in which time it has only been driven 20,000 miles. Nissan have refused to help. The quotation which they have given for replacing this circuit board is £620; only £40 of which is labour cost. They appear to me to be drastically over-charging and I feel abused by them. I bought the car new for the very reason that maintenance costs for a few years, at least, ought to be low. Now I have bought second hand circuit board from a breakers yard. But am having a few difficulties in removing the dash trim which surrounds the case for the dials and lights. The part immediately below the windscreen comes away easily. There are certain screws which are then exposed for the remainder of the dash trim. I undid those, but it still does not come away. I am worried about damaging surfaces etc as I lever with screw driver. Anyone know the right procedure?

It shouldn't fail the mot if you can hear the flasher unit ticking away an the tell-tale bulb does not light up, but when you press the hazard switch you must be able to see that the hazards are on by either both indicator tell-tale bulbs flashing or the hazard switch flasing.

Yep, this happened to us too. Car failed the MOT today on the left tell tale light on the dash not lighting. Quoted £511 to replace the cluster.

As long as the audiable warning works when the indicators are on IT IS NOT AN MOT FAIL.

If an MOT station says it is, ask them to show you the reasons for failure book, all testing stations should have one.

I have just (Nov 2010) had this same problem with 53 reg micra. Dash left tell tale indicator light doesnt work and has therefore failed MOT. Garage tried fuse / bulbs with no success. Have told me I need to take it to Nissan garage quoting £366 + VAT. GRRRRRRRRrrrrrrr

I have the same problem. Just bought a Micra 1997 from this dealer. Right tale light isn't working and the dealer will be fixing that tomorrow. Also my dashboard lighting is not working. I figured I could fix this myself by replacing the circuit breaker or bulb. But this seems a lot more serious. Hope the dealer can fix it for me.

Bought a new shape Nissan 03 plate for my Daughter for first car after just passing her test, bought it on the grounds of reliability and low maintenance costs!!

Tell tale light has failed on dash board and have been quoted £300 pounds by Nissan dealer to fix fault.

Nissan UK refusing to accept any responsability for their vehicles reliability. Will never touch a Nissan again or recomend it to any one else, what's happened to the old loyal Nissan Company who used to recall all faulty workmanship.

No answer, but exactly the same problem. Bought an04 Micra 2nd hand Nov 07. Left tell tale light wasn't working then. Dealer offered £50 off. I accepted, not knowing that a faulty tell tale would result in the car failing its MoT. This happened yesterday (31.3.08). My garage has quoted at least £250. I've got no choice, but am not happy! How many others has this happened to?
