Mend Renault Laguna Dci

renault laguna 1.9 dci ecu?

my laguna 1.9 dci 2002 is blowing black smoke and engine surging when driving but not when its idling i was told the problem was the air mass meter, i have changed the meter with a used one purchased from just renaults and the problem persists,if i disconnect the meter then i do not get the same problem but acceleration is sluggish ,now i am being told the problem is probarly in the ecu, the car has not been on a diagnostic machine yet but i am open to suggestions.

It's now March 2011 ......did you ever get the solution as my 2005 diesel Laguna has developed the exact same problem.
Drop in power, very sluggish, diagnostic says "air-mass" fitted new one.....still the same

I am having problems with my Laguna II 1.9 DCI I have only had it for 1 month and it has been driving sluggish for about 3 weeks I have changed MAF and changed the air filter housing as other was damaged. I need help as I don't want to spend extortionate money at the dealer. Can some one explain where the EGR is again as I really want to sort it as it has cost me £450 up to now and don't want to pay much more. I have had it on a computer and no codes have come up although I have the fault light showing on the dash? Can some one help please?

it could be the exhaust re circulatory valve, it sticks. I am not an expert at all, and others could give you a better idea. Anyway, it can stick open or closed, open and the exhaust gases go into the intake making it sluggish, closed is the worst, probably makes the car faster, but leads to overheating, intercooler can buckle and eventually turbo failure.
If it is this, it is an easy task, you need to remove it and clean it, use carb or brake cleaner. it is at the top back of the engine, 2 or 3 bolts hold it on, strip it and clean it. the problem i have read is caused by the infrequent oil changes (18000 mile) or should i say, not helped by the infrequent oil changes.
this may or may not be the cause, could be water in the diesel, not being buying diesel from tesco have you? alledgedly.
