how can i get my 2.8 diesel fiat ducato van to start reliably in the mornin?

How can i make my diesel van start more reliably ,especially on cold damp mornings .Fitted new battery recently but after so many turns battery drains.

Does the heater plug light come on? if so you need to replace the heater plugs, if not it may be the heater plug controller
