what can we do if have only got one key for ford mondeo ghia x?

I only had one key when I bought my mondy 99 (V) reg Ghia X auto , the only solution as above is to take the car to Ford. They charged me over £100 just to have a normal key made ( not a remote control key) and said it was because I had not got the red key.
It is ESSENTIAL when buying a used Ford that you obtain the RED master key otherwise you will be in for a LARGE bill when it comes to getting spares!

why not try phoning the last owner and the one before that and ask if they have a spare key or the key number? this must be worth a try.

julie i had the same problem with my mondeo and your right it can be expensive, when i went to ford they said in order to get a new/spare key they would need the RED master key which as you've probably guessed i didn't have. so what they did was to have the car in at their garage and get a new red master key a spare black key and also a black remote key (the one i wanted) and reprogramme the lot to the car or vice versa...anyway this set me back £200 not a pretty sum of money but i thought it would be cheaper than losing my only key and having to get a locksmith out and then pay out £200 to have three new keys! so if you haven't got the red master key which is the key any garage or keycutting shop (not just ford) need to programme any new keys then you will be looking at about £200. unfortunatley the keys must be progarmmed otherwise it wont disable the immobiliser but it will unlock the car
