How do I replace the door hinge on my Creda Excel tumble dryer?

I have a replacement for the bracket that fixes to the body of the machine but don't know how to fit it. The bracket has two Phillips screws, but the guy in the shop told me there is a fixing plate inside that needs to be held in place else it will drop down. This mean getting inside the machine, but how do I do that. It looks as though the whole thing needs to come apart, which I am loathe to do.
