Samsung rs21dcsv side by side fridge/freezer trips the house electrical breaker as soon as it is switched on, I assume there is a dead short but from what the motor or the compressor how can I identify the problem?

Very late response but may help others
Press "Power Cool" and "Power Freeze" down together for a while until the thing resets (if it is going to) - could be 10 sec or might be 30 secs.
Similarly, hold down "Ice Type" and "Child Lock" to re-set the red water filter indicator.

reset can be done by pressing certain buttons @ front pcb,
but depends what needs to be reset..

You probably can't. I had problems with a very noisy cooling fan. The repair man said they have design fault and fitted a new cooling unit. With a few months the fault returned. This time I was told to turn ot off and defrost for 24 hours. Now Samsung don't want to know - they advised me to sue the seller for selling me goods which were not fit for purpose!!!!! Have you ever heard anything so bizarre!! Don't buy Samsung!!!!

To Greg : When we called an engineer after a power cut and the appliance was not working he pressed a reset mechanism somewhere which was not a total repair but the appliance was working again. I am trying to find out how to do the same thing.
