noisy pipes?

when i turn on hot water tap after a few seconds i get noise in the pipes. the noise eases when i turn cold water on

check your float valve in the tank in the loft.

when they get old the rubber diaphragm inside go hard and the ball will bob up and down causing a vibration in your cold water pipe.
by turning on a cold tap your taking some of the pressure of the float valve.
