vauxhall astra 1.8 sport please help?

i recently had my vauxhall astra 1.8 sport (s reg ) mot and serviced. it was given a full bill of health. but ever since, i have been having to cope with it just cutting out. by this, i mean whenever i change down the gears to stop or slow down, the reves just die. i have returned to the garage twice for investigation, but they say it's fine! what could be causing this?

I went to turn the car on this morning and i think my battery is dead, i did not leave my lights on or anything. what can i do?

it could possibly be the EGR valve, i used to have a 1.6 sport and had a total nightmare with it, sometimes it would cause the car to stall sometimes the car would be running as if it was using just 2 cylinders, my sugestion is take it to another garage and get them to run a diagnostic test.

my daughter has a 1999 astra sport 1800 and suffers from the same problem, not all the time and it can happen when the engine is either hot or cold. the tickover is correct as per the hand book im not 100% sure but im looking at possible fuel problems or engine management
