Our 28PW6515/05 went through a period of apparently not
switching on (and it didn't make that little 'click' that lets you know it's up and running) so we sent it off to be fixed. It came
back in working order but without the remote control. I regret
ever sending the remote (person on the phone said 'not needed', but person who picked up the TV said 'ooh yes we'd better have that').
The replacement remote didn't work, neither did the one we
subsequently bought - taking a brave punt on £20. We would
have made do with using the Freeview remote but my flatmate
wanted to try viewing his digital camera output and apparently
we needed to do something to the TV with the remote.
The TV is now doing its 'not switching on' trick again, but if we
just leave it a few moments it 'leaps' into action. We've got a
Freeview attached to Ext 1 so we have to press the button on
the top of the TV about five times to change the channel to
the Freeview one.
It works fine - eventually...
Having read posts to forums such as this I understand that our
Painter IC is a bit dodgy and it would seem that all of them have a bit of a design fault. I didn't know what a Painter IC was before our TV took a funny turn so I suppose it has been a learning experience.
At least our TV has forced us to reassess our hurried attitude to life and I now have time to make a cup of tea and load the washing machine before vegging in front of it. I feel I've earned it ;-)
Unless I learn how to replace Painer ICs at will, or learn that
they are no longer in use I'm unlikely to buy one of their TVs
that contain this chip.
By comparison my fairly ancient (20 years) Akashi colour TV
works fine. Then again it doesn't have a SCART socket.
