How can I replace a broken lcd screen sansa 260e?

Just wanted to thank Brian for the tip! I can't believe how much of a godsend that was! I am back up too!

EVERYONE EVERYONE EVERYONE!!! I just fixed mine! Ok, just take the back off where the battery is visible and above the battery will be a black thing. Just press hard on that black piece and you should here a pop. The LCD should work now, at least thats what mine did!

I am reparing digital cameras and mp3 players and replacing Sansa LCD is always an issue to me. If sansa makes a replaceable LCD, the product will have more users then what is now. I do not think it will make the sansa costlier. This is a trick to sell more sansa as people will through away the damaged one and will buy a new one, but surely not a sansa, it will be some other brand. manufacturer should understand this. mohan

The e200 series lcd's are air soldered onto the board. If you don't know what that means then your not going to be able to swap the screen unless you invest 300 bucks or more in a hot air soldering set up. The memory is the only electronic pat that is easily swappable. The board is 99% surface mount parts so while you can with a steady hand and a good iron replace the headphone jack the majority of the parts are not user replaceable.

As to the comment that you wont buy or don't like this. This is exactly what the vast majority of consumers want. Cheap quality to get this you have to make these small with allot of power and functions. Either you make them expensive with easily replaceable parts or cheap with small inexpensive surface mount parts.

I have been repairing electronics's for a living for about 26 years now. When I started almost every part was made to be replaced. These days people want fast and powerful. The way to do that is to make throw away electronics. 20 years ago if your tv broke you brought it to me to get it fixed. These days when your tv breaks you chuck it run to wally world and buy a new one.

Sansa is no help. My son's broke after less than a week. They don't do repairs and of course this isn't under warranty.

I sent them a nastygram saying they should at least offer (for a fee) to replace screens that seem to break so easily!

I will not be buying another mp3 player in the near future. We are going backwards in our technology in the long run....at least my sony portable cd player is still kicking after more than 10 years!
These things are too flimsy and obviously designed for a short life.

Have exactly same problem myself and am frustrated. Best advice Sansa can offer is to try and pick up a used replacement on Ebay etc. I was told swapping screens should be easy enough. But so far, picking up a replacement at a reasonable price has been an issue, cos of course everyone wants a second in good condition - and cos of the importance of the screen - so do we.

Go buy a refurb. Or a refurb e250, cheap @ $40 shipped. Then try to transfer your e260's memory if you wish. - I'm guessing that would work, make a quick & dirty fix which would be reasonably priced. If not, you still have a 2GB unit with the same features cheap. Think we may do this to in essence "repair" my son's broken display. Wish parts were more readily available. I expect they soon will be, though.

There is no part replacement for that player. When you say broken LCD screen, is it an outside damage or inside LCD damage? do you have like an inkspot on it? where did you buy this player? lastly, when did you buy this player?
