Ford Galaxy parking aid?

The parking sensor on my 2002 Galaxy has stopped working. When I engage reverse, I get a long beep, and the indicator button flashes. There is no response from the sensors at front or rear.

I should be grateful for any advice you can give me about what to look for. I am reasonably clued up about electronic gadgets and have a DVM that I could use.

Thanks

Richard

got an 02 plate galaxy with front and rear parking sensors, ex police thing. when i engage reverse the parking aid sensor switch flashes indicating a fault, i hear a long beep from under the passenger front seat then the sensors dont work cleaned them an refitted them all ok, tested the ticking noise which they are doing fine but yet no beeping to tell me they are waorkin.

the underside of the passenger seat is dry and i've had the module apart and it looks ok (no sign of water ingress at all, all fuses are ok wiring to all sensors seem obviously ok i assume as they all tick!

i have had a look in the rear of the vehicle cos autodata says the parking aid module is in the o/s/r of the car. so pulled the panel off to be faced with a single multi plug and no module.

does there need to be a rear module or are all sensors controlled by one module under the seat?

does there need to be a beeper in the rear to make it work? or are all beeps heard from under the seat?

is there anyway to actually test this module without replacing it or putting it into another car?

This forum saved me! My problem was exactly as Richard H described: one long beep and then silence.

One of my sensors wasn't ticking. I held a stethoscope (get calving one from a local farmer) up to each sensor because there was plenty of background noise. I swapped out the sensor and now everything is working.

Thanks for the help and advice!

had a problem with my sensors. Started as an intermittent fault with the front working and then not working but the rear were fine. Checked the floor well under the front passenger seat and it was bone dry. Listened to all the sensors and all ticking away nicely. I then noticed that the front speaker didn't omit a beep when the button was pressed so I took it out and put a circuit tester across the contacts. Sure enough it had gone open circuit.

I bought a new unit from a VW dealer not a Ford dealer and saved over £6 +VAT. The VW parts are currently £11.64 +VAT and the current part number is W8E0 919 279.

Hope this is helpful and saves someone some money. If your sensors stop working make sure you identify the problem first as the control box is very expensive, too expensive to do a simple swapping exercise only to find it isn't the problem. It appears that if any part of the system goes kaput it all stops working with the same symptoms displayed.

Thanks to all the previous posts which helped me with tracing the problem, particularly with checking if the sensors in the bumpers were working.

If they are ticking when engaged, i would recomend a new buzzer. £13 get it from vw cheaper than ford.

I had this problem with the parking sensor not working too - 51 plate 1.9td. Seems the tray underneath the passenger seat was full of badger urine and shorting out the parking sensor unit.

Yes the tray under the seat fills with water either buy the washer tube comming disconnected right under the plastic door trim and i have also found the grommet around the washer pipe comes out and lets ahuge amount of water in, this is a pig to do. I chopped the pipe inside the car and fed a new grommet over the pipe and up to the bulkhead, reconnect the pipe with silicone hose for eg. Funny thing is the carpet isn't always flooded so you don't always twig theres a problem.

Just to answer my own question in case it helps someone else. One of the actual sensors was faulty. If you listen carefully while the system is activated, a working sensor gives a very quiet ticking noise.

Thanks for comments guys

Under the carpet of the passenger's seat is a small plastic box that contains the electronics for the parking aid. If you had for example a leak from the windscreen or rear washer this might cause the electronics to fail. Just one of the possible causes...
