Mend Vauxhall Astra 1.7cdti Engine Turned Time

Astra 1.7cdti starting problems?

My astra with 1.7cdti engine has recently required the engine to be turned over excessively to get it to start. At the same time the throttle control motor and diesel pump "electric unit" are noticeably noisier than before. Engine diagnostic shows all codes correct. Any ideas please engine mileage 54k.

My Astra is driving me crazy it starts well for the first time, but if I stop somewere for a couple of hours it wont start again, the starter motor runs but it wont start, the problem is it doesn't do it all the time.
Can any one help?

i have same problem i have checked glow plugs, drained fuel from fuel tank filled with good deisel, changed fuel filter and filled housing with injector cleaner, no codes present. havehadit running switched it off ad removedthefilterhousing top immediately and found filter housing half full im guessing fuel vaccum drawing fuel back into tank could do with a few ideas, many thanks

This problem was resolved when it was discovered that the fuel line that runs along behind the engine had been rubbing against the engine and developed an ultra-fine hole/crack that was letting in air. With this replaced the problem was resolved. This after several trips to various garages and some expense. No one could suggest that this might have been the problem.

Hi,
Don't know if this will help but two things come to mind for poor starting. Glow plugs are the most obvious and on the Astra Izuzu engine I've been told that sometimes the valve clearances need re-shimming to correct poor starting. If you have noticed the orange glow plug light taking longer than usual to go out, try that first.
