Mend Hotpoint 9912 Wash Clean

hotpoint 9912 spinning but not agitating?

Wash came out not clean. Seems to spin OK, but makes a noise - a little like a bicycle freewheel - when trying to agitate and drum won't turn without a push on the belt. Brushes look well-worn. I can see sparks from brushes on one side only when spinning. Is it possible new brushes would solve the problem?

yes ian i think so try not to run it with it clicking it damages the motor
