it is a combi boiler and we moved in a year ago but it must be a few years old.
only one radiator has the problem of being cold in the middle and hot on the outside, all the other radiators are fine

if one radiator is sludged they all will be, clearing with hose is not a long term solution. £400 is only expensive if not done right and problem not cured. if done right it will never need doing again. if this is due to sludge you will start blowing radiators and end up with a problem boiler. is this a combi system ? if so how long been installed ?

radiator probably full of sludge.cheapest repair is to remove radiator and clear with hose rather than expensive (£400.00) pressure cleanse. Problem usually caused by excessive pump speed setting creating air in system. Most domestic installations require lowest pump setting only.
