Insignia Portable DVD Player does not play DVDs - says no Disc?

My dvd player will turn on but will not play the dvd or let me take the dvd out. What should I do ?

So the player will load cds and play them. But when I put a dvd in it says loading then it says DVD-VIDEO but stays at the boot up screen.

When I turn my dvd on the screen lights up and 1 second it turns off.

Our player had gone through the horrors and use of a rather sweet 3 year old for over a year before coming up with the no disk issue. Since the warranty is expired I went ahead and broke the seal on the bottom finding lots of hair, dust, and what I think were crumbs of some sort. Kids aren't allowed to eat in their rooms where the player was...um, yeah, we'll have a chat shortly here!

I turned it on without the bottom on it after cleaning the gunk out and it loaded just fine! After I put the bottom back on it showed no disk again. I loosened the screws a little on the bottom plate and tried again with success. I think the eye going back and forth was jamming on the bottom cover...it's well used but has more life in it now! I like this player especially how it's stood up to toddler use (no abuse) but you know!

How do you fix a motor that has apparently burned
out? The disc no longer spins.

I have a NS-PDVD8 . I purchased DEC 2006. I used it in April 2007 and then again in Jan.2008. When I went TO use March -2008 I received message NO DISCwhen attempting to play DVD.i messed with for an hour by rebooting and and dusting with compressed air.No help

next day I tried a CD and after very long loading time played music.
after I let it run for an hour I attempted DVD but same response.NO DISC

I cleaned the optical lens with a damp soft cloth and dried with soft cloth ( I do not recommend using a cloth but I was fed up and needed the player for flight next day) I believe you can purchase a cleaner kit.

I also ran the lens back and forth 5 or 6 times to make sure it could move fully along track.I heard clicking and wondered if this was ever going to run again.

I tried a CD first and the Cd loaded almost immediately and played

Next I tried a DVD and loaded successfully and played entire movie.

I turnred on and off about 10 times and reloaded movie without any problem.

Mine is doing the same thing. It seems to me that if I tilt it till the screen is laying flat it will play the disc. It usually works but it is inconvenient.

I had the same problem. Now i insert the disc, spin it clockwise and shut the lid quickly, while it is spinning. sometimes it works and sometimes i just turn it off and on and it will work.
