how can you get tv off standby?

my tv has been lovingly touched by my kids and seems to have gone on standby (this is second tv which has done so.....cant get anything from it......it ticks when power is on Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllppppppppppppppp tv s are only 2 yrs old and have been fine until this has happened.

What do you mean by 'has been lovingly touched by my kids'. Has it been dropped, knocked over, had liquid spilled into it or what?
