I have a 1999 chevy cavalier 2.2 engine speedodometer\transmision problem?

the other day my speedodometer quit working and my transmission would not go out of low gear, would not change, ok io took and had it put on a transmission scanner and said it was the speed sensor, had it replaced, mstill doing the same thing. m Check engine light is also on, what could it BE?????
please help
