how do i fix my renault clios starting problem? 1.4 rn 1999 t reg. the starter was working ok then refused to work! i changed the starter for a new one but it just crunched! like the teeth were not joining correctly. tried another one same thing! put in a new fly wheel and starter now it starts the car but it is still crunching. what is macking the crunching sound and how do i fix it??? email neil.ramsay@tiscali.co.uk
thanks for that have all ready tried this and every thing is as should be. tied another few starters and still nothing! any more suggestions?

Remove the replacement starter motor to see if the teeth on the gear are damaged if you have the old starter motor count the number of teeth on the gear and compare the two, I have a Renault and getting the correct parts for a particular year and model can be a bit of a nightmare so put them side by side and have a good hard look at them also make sure the mounting bolt holes in the casting are in the same place.
