I have the same deck, same problem. I was attempting to dub a tape. I set up the dub function, pushed the button to start everything, and Deck B stopped running and the Dub terminated. The tape in Deck B wouldn't go forward or backward and the eject button was disabled. I could hear motor noises, so I knew that the deck was trying to operate. I visited another forum, same deck, same problem described, and found this answer from another person:
"Most likely the belt to the mechanism has broken. You will have to dismantle the unit and go from the rear and work the eject mechanism by hand. If I could see it I could tell you what to look for but by turning the large capstan flywheels should eject the tape. The heads move forward to make contact with the tape, if you forcibly remove the tape you will definitely damage the deck."
I was dreading having to attempt this solution so I decided to try again. I spent about 10 minutes alternately turning the deck's power on and off, and pressing all motor function buttons, forward, backward, fast forward, reverse, pause, etc. Finally I heard a solid "klunk" type sound and the deck reset itself. The eject button now worked. I took out the offending tape, which looked okay, but replaced it with a new tape. I crossed my fingers and tried the dub again, and this time everything worked fine. I tossed the tape that had jammed. I didn't think the belt was broken because I could hear a bit of a squealing sound occasionally which meant that the transport must be getting power from the motor.
