How to change a diesel pump?

i have a 1998 ford mondeo diesel. the mian bearing is makin a noise. do i change the whole pump, or can i change the bearing whil the pump is still in the car???? if i change the pump, do i nee to set the timin marks?? it seems to run off the pwer steering pully. please help!!!
