Mend Gainsborough Electric Button Switch

How do I mend an electric shower that won't turn off?

I have a gainsborough electric shower with a button to switch the water on and off. The shower has regularly not stopped when I press the button. Today resorted to turning the water off at the stopcock. Eventually stopped after 30 minutes of pressing the button on and off.

Do I need a new shower?

Had the same problem, fitted the shower and worked for the first few times, then had intermittent problems with the button not releasing when trying to turn it off.

Took the cover off and refitted the cable and pipework plastic cover (bottom right corner) and ensured that cable supply wasn't pressing against the cover causing it to distort.

Works fine now, but I have to say it's not the best design in the world.

I've just tried to fix this using the 3 washers but it didn't make any difference. In the end I noticed the small spring/pin in the top right by the electric was pressing against one of the plastic guards protecting the wiring. I just free'd up a little space here so the spring/pin can move freely, works a treat now. All in all another day off from work fixing things around the house, typical!

My tenant just rang me now with the same problem. Invest in some pliers and pull the button out as hard as you can. This should fix the problem. Remmeber to turn teh electric off before doing it or you might just electify yourself.

Hi. This shower has been designed by a monkey for sure!
You'll find three small plastic "washers" taped to the inside of the cover. You need to use these washers to space the main body of the shower away from the wall when fitting.
If you don't use them and fit directly to the wall you will experience the problems with the water shut off button.
Why they couldn't design the thing with the spacers in place already i'll never know.

Good luck.

Phone the help desk and they will talk you through fitting a new button and/or checking the cover is fitted well. The cover is critical and check it for damage or distortion due to electrical cable pushing against it. Can try pressing against the righthand side of the cover near the button to see if that helps. Remember the unit is meant to run on for 5 seconds anyway.

The start stop button is out of allignment. Its a sh*t design.
Could also be the spring behind the start stop button.

You should have a pullcord switch to the shower with a light showing that it is on,power to the shower always goes through a pullcord, have it looked at it sounds dangerous.
