Renault Laguna 2003 key card?

If your key card still starts the car and its more than just the switches that are faulty (the most common fault), you can remove the chip from your faulty card and install on a second hand one.

The chip is surface mount, has 14 pins and very, very small and but I’ve successfully done it on the key card for both my own and my wife’s key.

It is not a job for the faint hearted and you need a very small soldering bit (1mm) and a very big magnifying glass and steady hand.

I have just been to a locksmiths in Milton Keynes. They told me that all transponders in new car keys can only be programmed once to a car. This is because the transponder id is changed when programming. they done me a genuine Laguna2 keycard for £108. I found there services on eBay. any one interested their phone number is 01908640264

Hi bravo can any one shed light on this subject of the key re-programming -

Hi, I specialise in repairing remote contols, if you have renault keycards with the buttons not working, I can repair them at a reasonable price. (£25.00 - 30.00 usually) I can also supply new "virgin" keycards, or, if you have a keycard which is used i.e. from another Renault car, I can virginise it so that it can be programmed to your vehicle by a local locksmith with the correct equipment.

As of 4 June 2006 You will NOT be able to buy a new keycard from Renault without supplying the VIN number and proof of ownership of the vehicle.


The reason behind this is due to a major security issue that has been discovered outside the UK. The scenario is this. You take your vehicle for some work to be carried out. The dodgy technician has a blank keycard. He programs that keycard to your vehicle. Then they either come to your home address and steal the vehicle or sell the key and the address to a friend who then steals it


So the procedure is that you or us a dealer has to provide customer specific details to Renault France who will authorise the card to be ordered. The card then arrives at the dealership with your VIN number already coded to it. We then apply to Renault for the programming code and have 1 hour to program the key before the code expires.


So if anyone is considering buying a New key from Ebay for example. You will NOT be able to get it programmed fullstop as the Clip will not allow a non Vin encoded key to be programmed as explained above. Note also that a new Vin encoded key Cannot be programmed to any other vehicle even if it has not been programmed to the original one.

My 2003 sports tourer laguna key cards had both packed up, Renault as stated wanted £160 for a new one, I found a site called keyrepair.co.uk and they charge £25 to repair your card.....works like a dream and a very quick turn around as well. Excellent service

Hi all there are a few sights giving you a step by step fix to this existing problem and all it takes is a little solder and half an hour max to put the delicate little switch back in to place in most cases you can here it rattle inside the card.

may renault laguna 2004 key is accidentally broke the case of the key, the locks and open is working but the problem is cant read the key if i insert it and sometimes read it? please help...

Interesting jdunne48, I too have had many Renault's. This laguna I have will be the last one ever. I tell everyone I know never to buy Renault and that they'd be a fool to own one. I suspect their lack of recognition of car faults will damage their reputation for a long time, even if they do continue in F1 (cheating at that now , judging on this year's team activities). How many broken coil springs have there been across Europe one asks, but if you out of waranty its a normal problem. They never used to break on good old British built cars. Never will I buy anoter Renault.

I am with same problem with my Laguna keycard. To unlock it works perfectly. but do not work to lock.
To lock all doors manually i can do it. How can i lock back luggage door?
Anyone can help?

I have just had my Renault Laguna Keycard repaired after the Lock button stopped working. The unlock button still worked okay but it was a bit of a pain having to 'manually' lock the car!. I have been a loyal Renault motorist for many years. However........................
All Renault key cards are too delicate and are a real pain and very expensive and cost over £150 from a Renault dealer to replace everytime.
Renault will not acknowledge this problem which is happening to every owner at some point. "Oh you must be the first person that this has happened to" Renault do not know the meaning of goodwill either and will NOT to supply a replacement key card for their £23,500. Laguna Tourer. Both my key cards have had exactly same problem.........the micro button switches fail.
For this reason alone I will never buy a Renault again. This is a proven design fault and Renault UK should be issuing replacing FREE key cards to all owners, instead of scamming them for £150 everytime (their design fault) on production of your log Book and ID. The other option is to go to www.keycardrepairservice.co.uk or phone 020 8889 7593 and have your existing ckeycard repaired for £25+ postage or while U wait at 21 Green lanes London N13 4TT.
Tip. Do not waste your money on any second hand key cards, they can only be used with the original car only and cannot be reprogrammed and Renault dealers will only programme new key cards issued by them.........honest.

Hi i nearly ended up buying two cards from renault for an arm & a leg,untill a m8 put me on to a place in north london,here is their website www.keycardrepairservice.co.uk they repaired them both for me in a couple of hours while i had a cup of tea in the local cafe,hows that for service & much cheaper & quicker than renault.

My key card would lock but not open the car. Replacement was the only solution offered by Renault at the unbelievable cost of £140 + vat per key. Internet research came up www.keyrepair.co.uk They returned my key within 3 days of posting it to them fully repaired at a cost of £25.00 plus postage. An excellent service.

you definitely cant buy a second hand key card from e-bay etc and get it to work, without it being re-programmed to your vehicle and Renault wont re-program second hand key cards so you are wasting your money buying second hand key cards

Mr steve I have the same problem. I just bought a key from ebay and I went to renault dealer and did not could code the key .
they sad that the key when is made came with the chassis number code in and is not possible to delete so
I think I just lost £30 because I don't know how to code this new key that i bought .anyway if still going to buy a second key not from renault garage make sure that you realy can code you key and if you do that can you please tell me where because I need too.
