Mend Renault Megane Car Not Working

1996 Renault Megane car keys not working?

We have two keys, but will not unlock car (electronically) so car
will not start. (Starts & Stops immediately). Unlocking key
is required for car to start. Since both our keys are doing the same...
Is there a battery somewhere in the car that needs replacement?

how do you go about finding the code, ive just got the car and the previous owner hasnt a clue what it is

after entering the immobiliser code using the central locking button, you don't start the engine! to enter the key programming mode you must enter the code, the immobiliser light will illuminate permanently for a few seconds and then go off, indicating the code is correct. if the code is correct turn off the ignition and then press and hold the central locking button, keep it held down until the locking system locks and unlocks the doors, you now have 30 seconds to point the first remote key at the receiver in the roof and operate it three times. if re programming is successful the doors will lock and unlock in quick secession, then do the same for the second key. if the key will not re programme, check the circuit board inside the key as the legs on the optical eye have a habit of breaking preventing the key from giving out a signal. you can just carefully solder the leg back to the circuit board

re "spare key from ebay and code it myself" .. unless its a BRAND NEW key it WILL NOT WORK - keys are non-transferable.

MEGANE WITH EARLY REMOTE (LED SWITCHES OFF WHEN HOLDING
BUTTON DEPRESSED)
1. Ignition ON
2. Press and hold the central locking button for 5 seconds
3. LED on the dash board will go off, come back on and begin to flash. The flashes correspond to the first digit of the 4 PIN security code - release the button when the first digit has been 'flashed' and then press the button again.
4. Wait for the second digit to be 'flashed' then release and re-press the button - continue until all digits have been entered.
5. If you have entered the code correctly the LED will then go out and the car can be started - to code the remote, switch off the ignition and press the central locking button again.
6. Press remote button 2 times within the immediate vicinity of the pick up (in the roof) On some vehicles you may need to switch the ignition back on to achieve this however.

First check that your fob is actually working with a mobile phone camer like big elvis says, if not you should check the connection from ir IR LED to the circuit board, mine corroded which was my original problem, RAC guy soldered it but left the battery out for too long, then the renault garage recoded & 'fixed' it for £25 and now 2 weeks later its gone again and im not really up for paying another £25! Will try getting a spare key from ebay and recoding it myself i think!

My key has broken and I have been quoted ridiculous prices for new key and programming. I have the code for my immobiliser which I am having to use each time I start the engine, it is a pain in the rear end!!!

Big Elvis - how did you resync the key yourself? Please tell all lol :-)

i have a program that finds the code for immobiliser, need a couple of numbers, one from key and one from the door sticker inside drivers door, my key wouldnt unlock doors, therefor the immobiliser was on and car wouldnt start, renault have quoted £150 for resetting key, but found code and resynced key myself for nothing. Works with renaults that have IR locking, check key first to see its working, if you have a mobile phone with camera or digicam, point key at the lens and press button, on the screen you should see a white/blue light flash

This happened to my car aswell. I replaced the batteries in the key and still did not work. I think the coding in the key has gone. This needs to be re-coded and only the renault garage can deal with that and it very expensive. It cost me £85.00 just to code one key.
