How can i fix my scantronic 601 house alarm?

This alarm (Scantronic 601) was in when I moved in and it came with no instructions - I just know how to set and disable it. I was pulling up carpet and cut though the tamper cable (didn't know it was even there - it was buried under the carpet). The tamper alarm went off (didn't even know the alarm had one!) and I had to remove the alarm fuse and the back-up battery to shut the alarm up. I have repaired the tamper cable with electrical tape, and have tried the battery and the system lights up but I cannot get the tamper light to turn off. I have found a user guide on the internet and it gives instructions for resetting the system but I need to know if this will wipe out all the 'zones' etc. Will the alarm work ok with the tamper light on?
