how do I fix my washing machine?

if it is the drum that is not turning ie not spinning not turning
during wash and everything else is working water coming through etc sound like the brushes that turn motor need replacing usually screw holds them in place at bottom of machine attached to motor they are made of a carbon like substance and when they wear they do not touch motor and create electrical current to turn motor .
