Mend Servis Washing Machine Loads

How can I fix my Servis washing machine for normal loads?

My washing machine still works normal with light loads. As soon as any thing more than two towels go in the drum seems to be unable to turn. The motor doesn't seem to have enough torque to turn the drum? Is it relatively easy to replace the motor if that is what it is?

Well, finally managed to get hold of someone at Servis and then someone at their spare parts company. They don't sell spare brushes I'd have to buy the complete motor. The motor costs £170, that's the same as I bought the machine new for 3 years ago. Another point for me to note when buying a servis washing machine, there isn't a licenced repairer in the North East and I'd have to pay the repairers expense of travelling from England.

I've had the top and back off the machine and it is definitely is not the belt slipping, it's the motor not turning the belt. Didn't see any sparks, though it is quite hard since the motor is beneath the drum. I will try and change the brushes out first rather than purchasing a new motor.
Thanks

I had a similar problem with my Hotpoint and it turned out to be the motor brushes (nothing serious). To check, take the top of your machine off (just a couple of screws) and run the machine as normal. Take care and stand well back and watch the motor running. If it sparks a lot and does not move the drum then it is the brushes which can be easily replaced (with the power off). Alternatively, if the motor is running when the drum is stopped it could be the belt slipping. Either way, you should be able to tell.

Just remember to stand well clear when the top is off and only touch the machine when you have unplugged it.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.
