i have a vectra n reg battery light stays on?

it is a petrol, battery light go's out while drivin but the first time it came on intermitent and was realy bright,now no battery light but when stood no keys in it comes on with a very faint handbrake light, and im sure theres more of a whirin sound from front, not had the car long so not realy noticed,

its the diodes in the altinator that needs fixin is it a diesel cos iz ur oil pump leaking slitly cos this maket the terminals all wet wit oil an the conectors on the alt need cleaning
