Error Code E20 Zanussi Washer Dryer WJD1667?

I have a zanussi jetsystem 1200, wjd 1257 w. It runs a wash cycle fine and drains during drying but theres no heat to the dryer cycle? Any suggestions?

the fluff filter at the bottom may well be clear...inside the machine is another tank thing that is very thin, that also builds up with fluff. when I have had zanussi men out in the past (when it was insured... they came and just replaced it, however... if i was accessing it myself (which I don't know how as when i unscrew lid of machine I can't see said tank) i would see if i could scoop out some fluff with a skewer or something. My machine is busy complaining again but i no longer have the insurance cover...might go back to a hotpoint machine ...

I know how to fix this. First you need to open the drain at the front bottom and either with a vacuum or spoon dig out as much rubbish as possible. Take the drain hose out of the drain pipe and put it in a tray very low to the floor. you will need to keep emptying this tray throughput the wash. When the wash is complete clean the filter again. Just keep repeating this process until you can put the hose into a bucket and the cycle still completes. You are now close to replacing the hose into the waste pipe. it is all about the pump power being able to push the waste water up into the waste pipe. if your washing machine is working ok on the wash cycle. and you get E20 on the tumble dryer side when it has been running for a few mins then stops. this can be that the manifold on the tumble dryer side is blocked with fluff. you can find this manifold under the tumble dryer fan unit and runs down to bottom side of drum. if this gets blocked your tumble dryer wont blow enough air into drum to dry clothes. water also runs through this as well so if blocked this will give you E20 as well. hope this helps

e20 error code during drying to pressure switch going faulty. very poor design air heater not insulated older models are) causing excess heat in the top of the machine where the presssure switches are located.

My washing machine gave an E20 error message yesterday & I cleaned out the filter... loads of crap eventhough i clean it on regular basis. Anyway, machine still wont drain through outlet pipe & I had to drain it through the filter hose at front.
What else could be wrong? If the filter was full, could somewhere else be backed up & does anyone know how to clear that? I've a house full of kids so need machine up & running ASAP :( Pls help....

Thanks for the comments guys - fixed it for me - the fluff filter was full of crap!

Hadn't been long since I cleaned it out, which was why I didn't initially think of that, and had never seen the E20 error before either.

Not sure why it filled up so quickly, and couldn't figure out what the stuff was as it was all just pulp.

I had the same error code, at first i got an error code 23 which states that the relay on the control board is bad and to replace control board ($275.00) ran through the drain\rinse cycle and got the error code E20 and I knew it was the drain that was plugged. Door will not open if there is too much water in the tub. Once thats drained it will open. Underneath the washer there is a plastic catch inside the rubber boot that catches obstacles from going down the drain. Cleared that up, bobby pins, bra braces, and about $10 worth of change and turned it on and walaa! It was good to go.

I read the above posts and tried the filter as the machine wouldnt spin.... yet again the filter was blocked with the rubbish from the kids pockets + coins and stones they had picked up and the fault is now cleared. Just make sure you put something under the filter - (old towels etc) as about 4 pints of water came out as I undid the filter. Great website...

Thanks for the advice - I checked the filter again and found the blockage that seems to have been responsible for my E20 message... I flooded the kitchen floor in the process but at least the machine is now working again!

E20 error on drying with mine. Cleaned normal fluff filter but no fix. Found that the condensor bottle fills with fluff also and needs to be cleaned out. Had to take back off machine for this. BUT... I have done this and now the machine won't start at all. Programmed OK, tells me how long program will take but when I press start it does nothing. I have checked that all wires connected and not dislodged, all appears fine. Start button works as if pressed before programming then displays "Err". Is there a sensor somewhere that stops machine starting?

Oooooh ,my washing machine works fine but the dryer hasnt worked for 3 years, keeps coming up with an E20 error after a few seconds of running. Im off now to find out where the filter is as I didnt know it had one!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoops

simple in most cases its just the filter outlet has becopme full of day to day junk, debris and slime.
Slowly release the water by turning the handle to release the water. Ensure power is off.
Once water has been drained into a shallow tray you will be able to open the door.
Once the drum is empty, unscrew the handle completely to remove filter housing an clean out thoroughly.
replace and tighten up.
Turn on power and reset all programmes.
this should work, total cost about 15 minutes of your time.
If it doesnt work it may then be your pump, time to think about and engineer

I had this problem, I replaced the pump near the filter and now the machine is fine.
Tilt the machine on its side and remove the 3 screws and 2 wires that hold the pump in place, very simple. Replacement parts or replica's are very easy to find and cheap buy on the internet.

E20 error on mine was cured by removing a 10p coin from the filter and the big wad of fluff that had built up behind it. Total repair cost: -10p

had my zanussi washer dryer for 5+ years and got E20 and not draining, stopping mid-wash.

The very professional polish repairman from the repair firm I used (found them online) explained to me that the computer had gone crazy and needed to be replaced (£100) and it had been sending current to the pump (£25) and making it melt over time. I want to know if computer faults are common - hopefully not at the price of Zanussi machines although I guess if the above repair cost means it keeps going for another 5 years then that is fair enough. heating element and also drum all in ngreat condition.

E20 error message is clearly covering a multitude of sins but in general I still rate zanussi (apparently bosch v good too)

My Machine stopped draining after making a rough sound for an hour or so. I replaced it with a unit bought from a local parts store. it took about 15 minutes, remove 3 screws from the body, pull of 2 wires, fit the new motor to the housing using the 3 screws, put the 2 wires back on and the job is done. The motor cost £25.
When I took the old motor off, a lump of compressed fluff was jamed in there, so have a look. The work was don by tipping the washing machine on its side, the access is quite easy.

Response to Colin Sinclair. I still think it’s the pump. The intermittent nature of this problem is “in my opinion” due to temperature fluctuation during the wash. My theory is that at hotter temperatures the differential expansion of the spindle and bush within the impeller assembly leads to too much friction if scale/grime have set in. Please bear in mind that sealed assembly motors produce low torque, and if friction is too high, the motor will not turn. In further support of my view is the low humming noise produced by the pump when the error E20 is displayed, if it was interference, I think the humming should stop. Does anybody know who supplies spare pumps?

Most Probably the Drain pump is jammed or has become too heavy to rotate at higher wash temperatures. Pump can be fixed, but its better to replace it. The below described procedure will get you out of trouble and get the machine back in action for some time. But if you ensure that a washing machine descaler tablet is used in every wash the problem might be eliminated. German supermarket chains do a very good descaler, at reasonable price.
To fix: Take pump out "see above described methods" dismantle the impeller assembly from the induction coils. Spray WD40 liberally onto impeller bearing "the end with the white plastic cross", wiggle the impeller sideways “perpendicular to the axis of rotation” in all directions to break off any scaly or grime deposits. Spray more WD40 and keep on doing this until the impeller rotates freely. You know its OK if the impeller rotation becomes springy when reassembled back to the coil. Reassemble pump into machine in reverse order.

Looks like all these problems are the same thing. I really don't think it's the pump, since 99% of the time the machine works fine, drains perfectly well, and the machine is only 20 months old. My money is on an interference/tolerance problem with the electronic pressure (water level) sensor.

If "Jas" who answered another question on the E90 fault is still reading these pages, perhaps he can enlighten us?

Replace the pump. I got a new one from http://www.domesticspares.co.uk/ for £20.
They call it a 1174 Pump - Askol Type - Commonly used in Zanussi / Tricity Bendix / AEG
You can fit it by laying the machine on its side, you can get at the pump from underneath without dismantling it. It's located below the fluff filter and held in with three screws.

I have had the same problem, I have had to call an engineer who says I need a new pump, my machine is only 16 months old. Do you think there is a problem with this model?

First things first, check the fluff filter, since it is no doubt blocked. You can find this on the front of the machine lower Right hand corner, behind the flap. Expect a fair amount of water to come out, then pull out the fluff filter and clean it under a cold tap.

Unfortunately, mine has lost the plot. The filter is clean and there are no kinks in the pipe, but it is still not switching cycles, it basically can't drain itself.

I am currently using some drain unbloker down the sink to see if this eleviates the problem. Failing that I am going to have to call an Zanussi bod out to look at it, which will no doubt cost a fortune :( Only had the machine 18 months............

This won't help as such but I had an E20 on my Zanussi Jet System Xc and it also beeped continuously. I switched it off for 15 minutes and now its working fine. (touch wood)
