has anyone experienced ripped basket for grass collection?

Recently bought brand new Mountfield mower. happy with it at first though the collection basket is not very robust. Just took it out of shed and the material is ripped on it on the side. Also when connecting to the plastic top it never stays in. The mower is not handled with gusto so this should not really have happened?
