How to fix Toilet flush handle problems?

help, I purchased two flush lever handle but when I try to install it the long lever tto which the chain is attached, the lever isn't facing the right way,

I put the metal through the hole and the turn is incorrectly pointed..

the installation is on the side of the tank not front.
if it were in the front these would work. what do I do now? I bought metal and long lever and the other plastic with a shorter metal lever.

looks like you siphon may be split in bottom ,needs replacing.
