Mend Rangemaster NL Gas Cooker Ignition

Gas supply to oven, when striking, is intermitent?

When pressing the button for the oven of my Rangemaster NL, it is striking, but the gas fails to ignite. It appears that the gas doesn't always reach the burner, and sometimes it takes quite a while before the burner ignites, and then only after many attemps.
