how can I keep my lawn mower running ?

I have a Wizard riding mower, Model no. AYP7169A99 , 16.5 hp,42" cut, 6 speed. Don't know the year of it. My problem is every time I put the blades in gear the mower shuts off. I need to know why and how I can fix it.
