How can I fix?

Hi I have a Morphy Richards elite steam iron ur I’m having problems I think with the water tray I have to hold it in at the bottom so the iron will work if I let go the the steam button light goes out and no steam is made, ive checked all I can and can’t see any problems or leaks and the water jets that go into the water tray look good so don’t have a clue- is this a common fault thanks for any help u can give.
