remove old banister spindles?

Hi saw through the middle of the spindles then wiggle the spindles out you might have to try and break off screws or nails or cut with a hacksaw.

ps if you need to replace spindles the best way is to use dowels at the base and drill holes in the spindles and then drill holes and countersink in the top rail then fit timber strip to cover fixings ,this is a cheap way to make the banister to look like new.
