how can i tell which fuse is for what?

You COULD always do a search for "MAKE MODEL YEAR FUSE BOX DIAGRAM" - replacing "MAKE MODEL YEAR" with the details for your own car - which, for some reason you seem to think we don't need to know.

If the window opens but won't close, it is unlikely to be the fuse. Equally, it could be the switch or the control electrics - or even a fractured cable (possibly where it flexes going between car body and into the door).

You could also help yourself with a Google search for "MAKE MODEL YEAR WINDOWS"
