The close the lid sign will not stop?

This morning we made one cup of coffee. Opened the lid, put the filter coffee in and then pressed the 'cafe' button but it would not remove the 'close the lid' sign and keeps asking us to add powder. I have turned it off and momentarily when I put it on, it allows mre to press the cafe button to get coffee from the beans but then goes back to close the lid. Help!
