scantronic alarm?

Hi, I have a good old scantronic 9600 alarm.
I have an elmdene 16 ohm connected currently works fine and is very loud, however I would like to increase the volume, on reading the manual it says it will drive 2 16 ohm speakers in parallel.

So If I was replace the 16 speaker I have currently and buy an elmdene 8 ohm speaker will I get a louder alarm volume or will it not make a difference? Thanks

ps: I know op's who ask questions on this site have a habit of never getting back to you. But I promise you I will because this is important and would deeply appreciate your feedback. merry christmas

Assuming the alarm will drive the same voltage, you will get 2 x the power (Power = V^2/8RL, where V is the output voltage swing peak-to-peak and RL is the load resistance). If I recall correctly, that's about 3dB up (Not actually a lot of audible difference)

No you will not get a louder volume - you will get less sound.

The output impedance and the speaker impedance should match - notice the guidance calls for a 16 ohm speaker.

I know noting about alarm systems - I know very little about impedance matching of speakers but enough to warn you to abandon your plan.

Good Luck...
