Mend Ford Fiesta Wont Start

ford fiesta won't start?

my vehicle is a fiesta 1.1 m reg , one morning it would not start, the engine turns over as normal & fires intermitantly, there is agood spark at the plugs but they stay dry even after a while of trying to start the car, could the single point injector be faulty, i am told this is a common problem with fiestas.

Hi.. had a breakdown today in a M reg Ford Fiesta Azura.

Car started chugging and eventually conked out. ecovery man tried a few things but with no luck.

The engine is ticking over but not firing. There doesn't seem to be any fuel travelling through the lines and no spark in the plugs! I've pulled the fuel filter off myself and there's no blockage (had to drain what fuel was left in there).

Any ideas what the problem could be? I don't to spend a lot on the car its only a runabout.

Thanks

The Ford fiesta 1.4 Tdci does not have a fuel cut off switch,if your Tdci will not start and you have the PCM light flashing on instrument panel thats the one that looks like a cog with an explanation mark,it is for certain your EGR valve is faulty,un-plug the egr which is located under the fuel filter then start the engine, and it will start, when the egr fail no power goes to the PCM so no fuel to cylinders common fault on Tdci part cost £150 + vat from Ford 30 mins to replace.

the problem is with the 12 volt wire, the thick 2 coloured one, they tend to burn out ! you either need to drop the tank and replace the plug or cut a hole in the metal under the back seat with an angle grinder, being careful not to cut through the fuel lines under there and strip the wires back and re-fit. Thats what I did and now it starts first time EVERY time.

this is happening to my Fiesta, take out the back seat and you will find wires going down into the fuel pump. Give them a wiggle and a gentle pull and this seems to start the fuel pump up again !! strange but it works

Sounds like the single point injector is either blocked (happens when the car is only used for short trips, spray carb cleaner in the carb and this should free it) or the solenoid which runs the injector has given up the ghost (if this is the case then replace the injector, its not an expensive part and should be a ten minute job, literally)

I have an 'L' reg 1.4 Freestlyle. Tried the 'No.19 fuse' trick to no avail. There are no rear speakers - just speaker grills, either side of the parcel shelf, but can't locate a switch of any kind beneath them, (maybe I didn't look hard enough)! Is it located elsewhere for this model?? Nothing in the front passenger LHS footwell - as the handbook suggests either. Desperate to get the thing started...

My ford fiesta (1994 M Reg Ghia) starts fine, goes fine and then after about 1-2 miles cuts out nearly everytime i come to a stop or slow right down and press the clutch and break in. It starts back up fine, and works fine, but its really annoying when it cuts out and could potentially be hazardous too me and others as the power steering locks when it cuts out and needs to be clickly restarted. Please help...ive tried everything to spraying WD40 everywhere in the engine, all over the sensors and electrical parts, the only place i havent tried is the spark plugs, which everyone seems to be hinting at!? Or possibly the car computer and something to do with the revs when i slow down? Help needed!!!

advise don,t take your car to a ford dealer as they are just franchises that rip you off, they use ford name just to charge you an arm and a leg, and don,t give you a good customer service, this seems to be a common fault with these cars, best advice is trade it in for a non-ford model.
in the long run you will be quids in.

I had a similar problem, engine turned over, but would not start(Fiesta 1,25 -1996) there was no warning light in dashboard such as battery lamp, oil, abs, airbag-lamps. wipers did not work, I found the connector on cable from ignition switch was burned, red an black wires had been overheated.(there was no connection for the black wire in this case) I bypassed this connector and problem was solved.

Awesome, just done the fuse trick. Took number 19. INJ fuse out in the box next to your right knee and started it, car started with a strugggle, then died. Put the fuse back in and started no problem with the choke kicking in.
Lovely, my grandad is now a happy man lol, saves the bills of going to the local garage.

Many thanks

so if we use the fuse trick, do we still need a new injector???

a quick get home is disconnect the battery, leave 5 mins then reconnect.this clears the memory.the engine will run for 50 miles or an hour in learn mode.beware though it can be a bit erratic and if you hurtle off down a motoway when you back off it wont it'll run for about 300 miles then the fault will return till you clean the sensor

invariably is sensor at rear of carb dirty(foiling from oil breather)

remove air filter assy.caution pipe underneath (n0.2 phillips)
clean carb with carb cleaner payin attn. to probe at rear of carb.leave for a bit to dry and fire up.remember to clean inside air filter assy.

Hi Scott,

I'm no expert, but here's my view.

I think when this works, the engine must have been flooded.
When the fuse is out you prevent further flooding of the engine, and when you turn the key a few times it burns up the excess petrol. When you put back in the fuse, it gets it's normal amount of fuel and starts.
I think your fuel pump is probably ok, your just using the fuse as a switch to stop the petrol.

I had the same problems tonight. Got to my car and it just wouldnt seem to start. Would fire up and go to start but no joy. Checked battery, spark plugs etc. Even tried jump starting it but nothing happened. Got my girlfriend to pick me up and went searching on Google to find a solution. Came across this site and thought it was worth a go and it did the trick. How does it work??? Will I need to replace my fuel filter pump???? Seems to run a lot better now... Cheers

The fuse trick worked for me too, turn the engine over a few times with the fuse out, it will then start up for a few seconds and cut out, but then while trying to start it, wait a second or two and then push in the fuse while trying to start it.
I don't have any problems untill there is about 7 or 8 thousand miles on the spark plugs, then if I happen to stall the car, I have to use the fuse trick.

I had the same problem with an M reg fiesta. Your right it is most likely to be the fuel injector, in an attempt to save money ford decided to fit one fuel injector instaed of the usual four and have it work four times as fast, so it wears out quicker. Try removing the number 19 20amp fuse from the fuse box (on the right hand side of the steering wheel) it should be marked INJ on the back of the cover. Turn the engine over a few times with this fuse out and it should start and then cut out straight away. Replace the fuse in the same place and start the engine again. This worked for me, hope it does for you.
