Central locking and immobilizer?

Renault clio alize 2001. My central locking stopped working so used key to get in the car, switched on ignition and immobilizer light stayed on but car wouldn't start. Is the central locking and immobilizer coupled together. Usually when I open the car with the key and put the key in the ignition sometimes the light flashes, I switch off and try again and light stays on and car starts. Now the light stays on all the time but will not start. This has only happened since the central locking stopped working, any ideas. Thanks
