Mend Singer 507 Machine Work Full

Reverse foot on my singer 507 sewing machine wont work?

Hi all I gave my singer 507 a full service and greased all the cogs etc and the machine runs like a dream going forward, but the reverse doesn't work at all. When I look at the bottom foot that should pull the fabric through backwards it just go's up and down but not backwards for reverse sewing. Anyone got any idea why it is doing this?
