where is a transformer located for a GE XL 1800?

no radiation inside the microwave oven,but the capacitor stores high voltage ,we use a prob to discharge it to earth,most common fault is the diode that goes from the cap to earth,as has been said,not a job for amatures to take on,replace the oven or take it to a specialist like me ,if its more than three years old and a cheap unit dump it buy new one

That simple question simply serves to show you don't have the faintest idea what you are doing. Microwave ovens can be lethal. Not necessarily for you as that would simply be rfemoving your genes from the gene pool - but for your family.

Either spend thirty quid on a new cheap microwave or get someone who is competent to fix your old one.

For all microwaves the transformer will be situated to the side of the cooking chamber and behind the operator control panel.

Clearly your microwave is broken and a kind friend has suggested that the transformer (whatever that is) might be defective - you imagine yourself making the repair.

Don't even think about it - you will not have the special tool to remove the outer cover and inside you will find dangerous radiation and very high voltages - even when switched off and unplugged.

It's a safety thing - users are actively discouraged from poking around inside them.
