Chloe - what happens very often with cleaners - particularly after a year or so of use - it that repeated tugging of the cable causes a wire inside it to break near the plug - you can't see it.
I have fixed several vacuum cleaners by just cutting away 6" of cable and the plug and fitting a new plug.
It takes little time and costs very little - my guess is that it'll be a fix - easily done no matter what happens.
