replaced head gasket on old clio had head skimmed but horribly noisy now would timing being out 1 tooth do this as skim took slight amount from plug insert threads
Could be the timing but it really sounds like you are having predetonation from shaving the head. Ask a parts house about a special head gasket that would replace the thickness you took out.
