Intermittent sound blips?

I am experiencing a loss of sound on the TV ..only a short "blip" from time to time but with the perfect digital sound it becomes more annoying when something goes wrong ..and no pattern to it..At first i thought it was a New DVD player that was acting up..but i notice it on the Sky Movies or football or Video playback..and when I switch toAudio on the NTL digital it also has the problem..
I was thinking..dangerous for me...Could my scart leads be faulty..but which one ..
Any help would be appreciated..
