texecom oddysey alarm?

has any of you good bona fide fellow alarm engineers ever experienced sounder or piezo failure with the texecom oddysey bellboxes? if so how often?. i haven't personally i do use these sounders alot, but i am starting to get wary now.its a shame because i thought these sounders were great and loud. however its not much good if i install a sounder thats going to break down in few months.

is this true about the oddysey bellboxes or am i just believing to much stories.

cheers

in lofts? the batterys wont last very long up there. i fitted them in upstairs cupboards mostly anywhere within a protected area. mount the speaker away from the panel thats the idea. don't just take it out what good is no noise inside i mean lets face it everyone ignores bellboxes these days

like I have said last night feel free to read the dispute with Jim Im not new to the alarm trade hurts to say im old and to the electrical trade I hsve a successful company that ive had for decades soumds to me like your one of these people that call themselves an alarm engineer just because they have replaced a pir or a battery

and no mate I dont fit on board panels I fitted them 30-40 years ago so cut with the trying to be clever for commercial I will fit premiers dometsic depending on age I will fit a veritasR8 for old people who dont want the hassle of a very modern to use for young people I will fit more better kit I even show peoplr a range of panels they would think was better suiting most young and some old prefer premiers for the fob use and so calum where do you fit your endstations under the stairs next to the mains? or In a airing cuboard like a plonker the reson I dont use the speaker in a endstation is so it causes confusion annd panic for the burglar so they leave I fit most endstations in lofts oal

or maybe you are thinking of those cheap stand alone panels of yours with the on board speakers which are mounted near the front door you seem to favour lol. you make laugh nick you really do.

see nick, us bona fide alarm engineers use good quality end stations (scantronic) with remote keypads. this means you mount the keypad near the front door, then hide the main panel anywhere. then you buy a seperate 16 ohm speaker (elmdene) which somewhere central in the house. no one will know where the panel is. how is a speaker in a hall going to tell you where the main panel is?.

as for the texecom oddysey judging by your post and lack of knowledge on alarms i wouldn't be surprised if you connected the battery to the piezo terminals potentially f***ing up the unit then wonder why it does not sound.

you do know you do not need to mount the speakers next to the main panel?. you can mount the speaker anywhere you like, ideally somewhere central in the house (hall) where it can be heard from all rooms. then you can hide the main panel almost anywhere you like besides airing cupboards.

the reason i asked is because i have used 2 bellboxes (oddyseys) on many systems. using sab scb combo. the oddysey by its self in sab draws approx 400ma according to the meter despite its specification. would the current be more or less the same using by replacing them with the flashguard xl. without too much modification to the panel? cheers

its fine for both I remove the speakers on end stations two reasons less current and for security reasons if the end station cant be heard when the alarm is going its a less chance of being found by the burglar

how much current do the flashguard bell boxes draw approx? in sab and scb?

yes I despise the oddysey range think its cheep crap like ive said before to a engineer the prices for them say it all the battery life aint all that also best with a CQR Or a flashguard ive become a fan of the kinetic bell box as well installed a couple of them the other day camr free with some stock very loud

have you ever used any of them bell box's I mentioned?
