Battery pack on back of wall clock doesn't work?

I have a large wall clock that works on a battery pack. I changed batteries, tweaked the small brass spacers and nothing works. The clock has a glass front and the clock is encased in a heavy wood frame that can't be separated in order to replace the battery pack. Am I out of luck with getting this clock to work?
