Vauxhall Vectra stalling problem?

My V reg 2.0 litre petrol Vauxhall Vectra has a random stalling problem. it stalls when i am least expecting it when for example i dip the clutch at a rounabout or junction. i have cleaned out the idle valve thingy as sugested with carb cleaner but it still does it. Any ideas? Help!

hi.
i have a y reg 1.8 veccy(z18xe)engine.when driving or idling from cold, after 10 mins it will suddenly cut out and wont restart for approx 40mins after.when it cuts out you can hear a ticking sound coming from the purge valve on the air filter box, this lasts for about 6 to 8 mins.i have replaced plugs, cam and crank sensor, purge valve and cleaned out throttle body, hoses, replaced air and fuel filter.
i get no codes either.
after 35/40 mins the car restarts and drives fine and then conks out again.
any ideas??
why does my purge valve click?
i dont have any fuel starvation as when i unscrew the bleed nipple on the injector rail a get a good gush of fuel.

I have two of these vehicles in my family (1998 and 1998 Vectras)and they have both developed stalling problems, usually while idling at red lights or slowing down. I have been told all sorts or things that it might be and would have had to pay for some clown to hunt around for the problem. I looked myself, and to my surprise, it was the same problem on both vehicles. There is a connection with 2 wires running to it, the wires get too hot and the insulation disintegrates, causing the 2 bare wires to short and the engine fails. The connection is about 6 inches to the rear of the yellow oil filler cap, just to the right of the valve on the fuel rail. You will need some heat resistant tape and tape the wires up separately before binding them and keeping them as far from heat as possible. Hope I was of some help. BTW, the orange enginefault light is still on, but who really cares? Good luck.

"On the top of the crank case leading off the back left there are 2 breather tubes, the left hand one from the air-filter and the right hand one leads to under the Throttle body*, you'll need to remove the throttle body and clean up the metal butterfly and on the underside of this there is a very small breather hole (on the underside inside of the throttle body leading to the breather tube mentioned above *) these are notorious for getting blocked, when this is cleared out the car will idle like a dream."

At least someone on here talks sense, I've done over a dozen of these now and its ultimately the only long term cure, or you could keep chucking money at sensors and valves, because the garages will keep taking your cash :)

Hi All
I have an 02 Vectra EcoTec 1.8 engine. I too have had the stalling without warning problem but everyone I spoke to said it was unusual for this age of car to have this problem. It got to the point where the car would not start for some time after the stall. The only logical reason was the Camshaft sensor which the Vauxhall garage computer indicated as the only problem. When a new sensor was fitted the car still refused to start up so the old sensor was put back on.(saved me money!).....

Now the strange thing is that the break down bloke who picked my wife up suggested that it was the relays!? So I mentioned this to the Vauxhall engineer(and he was the foreman) who said he didnt think it was that but got too new Pump and Engine relays. He fitted it and bingo. The car started up...we put the old relays back on and whilst it now started we notice that if we tapped one of the relays the engine started to go sluggish or would not restart at all.

So, in my instance it was nothing more than the cost of a new relay(20 quid)...but by this time labour time built up and it ultimately cost me 120 quid.........

I should have listened to the breakdown guy....!!! lol

Hi, I would also check the crankshaft sensor, and position. This sometimes causes the engine to stall unexpectadly.

Hi

I would check all the vaccum hoses for splits or leaks.

Also, spray carb cleaner into the throttle body to remove any sludge deposits, this would be best done by removing the throttle body from the car.

Failing all that, try replacing the idle stabilisation valve with a new one (shouldnt be too expensive)
