F&P lid safety switch replacement?

Hi I have a F&P Smartdrive Excellence. The reed switch for the lid failed so I bypassed this. I would like to order a new reed switch component for this however the numbers on it have mostly rubbed off. Do you know which type of reed switch to get as a suitable replacement. I think that will be much easier and cheaper than dealing with replacing the whole wiring connectors from F & P.

Thanks
Debbie

Connecting it will not make the wires live. I don't know what tools you have or what level is your ability. Joining wires if done properly should be safe but if not done properly can cause an exposed wire or partly exposed wire to come in contact with metal. I am saying it is not worth the risk stuffing around with trying to connect wires when the original part only costs about $30 in NZ.

Yes, I want to connect the correct type of reed switch (which I know others have done) so that is why I've asked the question. The machine is 15 years old so don't want to spend much at this stage, however as it is still working I might as well hang on to it. I don't understand how connecting another reed switch will make the wires live though?

I assume that you by passed it by cutting the wires & joining them together. It would be far simpler & safer to buy the new one from F&P which will have the harness plugs attached so you just plug it in. The wires to that reed switch carry 230 volts electricity here in NZ. If you try joining wires to attach a different reed switch you may get it wrong and a live wire touching the metal body of machine could be dangerous or may blow your control board. Not worth the risk just to save a few dollars. Do it once & do it properly.
